PUEBLO RADIOLOGY EXPANDS AREAS OF EXPERTISE WITH THREE NEW RADIOLOGISTS
June 3, 2010 – Santa Barbara, Calif. – Pueblo Radiology Medical Group
announces the addition of three new radiologists to its practice. The
addition of Dean Black, MD, Edward Lin, MD, and Joe Luna, MD further
expands Pueblo Radiology’s areas of expertise in the sub-specialties of
neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging, ultrasound imaging, and
interventional radiology.
Dean Black, MD, a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of
Medicine, specializes in interventional radiology – particularly
transarterial and percutaneous oncologic interventions. Black completed
his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in
biological science before going on to complete his medical doctorate at
Georgetown and then a residency and fellowship at Loma Linda University
Medical Center. Black is board certified by the American Board of
Radiology and a member of the American College of Radiology.
Edward Lin, MD earned his medical doctorate at the University of
Rochester School of Medicine before completing an internship at Beth
Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a neuroradiology fellowship at NYU
Medical Center. Lin specializes in neuroradiology, head and neck
injuries, and minimally invasive interventional procedures. Having been
awarded the Trainee Research Award at the Radiological Society of North
America, Lin has published numerous articles in journals such as the
American Journal of Ultrasound and Medicine and Ultrasound Clinics of
North America. Lin is board certified by the American Board of Radiology
and a member of the American College of Radiology.
Joe Luna, MD specializes in abdominal imaging and ultrasound imaging –
including high risk OB and musculoskeletal imaging. A graduate of the
University of Tennessee’s medical program, Luna completed an internship
and residency in internal medicine at Yale University, a diagnostic
ultrasound fellowship at UC San Francisco, and a residency in radiology
at UC San Diego. A former Chief Resident in Radiology at UC San
Francisco and Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of
Washington, Luna is a board certified by the American Board of Internal
Medicine, the American Board of Radiology, and a member of the American
College of Radiology. In his most recent position as CEO, President, and
Partner at X-Ray Medical Group in San Diego, Luna was selected as one
of San Diego’s “Physicians of Exceptional Excellence” in 2009 by his
peers and the San Diego County Medical Society.

About Pueblo Radiology Medical Group:
Pueblo Radiology Medical Group, Inc. is a single specialty medical group
that utilizes diagnostic x-ray, diagnostic ultrasound and other types
of medical devices (CT, MRI, PET/CT). All of our radiologists are
licensed by the State of California to practice medicine as physicians
and surgeons (as are all other doctors in the state).
Pueblo Radiology Furthers Quality and Convenience to Ventura’s Growing Women and Senior Populations
March 24, 2010 – Ventura, Calif. – Pueblo Radiology Medical Group
announces the addition of PET/CT services in its Ventura office
beginning April 26. PET/CT is used to diagnose, stage, and monitor
treatment plans for various diseases, especially cancer. This addition
makes Pueblo Radiology the only full-modality diagnostic imaging and
interventional radiology facility in Ventura with two subspecialty
trained radiologists on-site at all times.
PET/CT is a diagnostic imaging study that diagnoses and stages diseases
such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and cardiac disease. Using a
combination of positron emission tomography (PET) and computed
tomography (CT or “CAT Scan”), radiologists are able to identify the
precise biological location and metabolic activity of disease.
When asked why the decision was made to add PET/CT, Pueblo radiologist
and PET specialist James Day, MD said, “We recognized a growing need for
full-body imaging and sought a high quality piece of equipment that
would add convenience to our patients and referrers and complete our
circle of women’s diagnostic imaging services. PET/CT provides a
complete picture of tumors in the body. Detecting distant cancer lesions
will improve treatment plans, assess the effectiveness of treatment,
and save lives.”
Over half of Ventura’s residents are women – a subgroup that will
particularly benefit from the Pueblo’s full line of services. Of the
3,330 expected new cancer cases in Ventura County this year, 590 are
predicted to be breast cancer. If a routine mammogram finds
abnormalities, breast cancer patients could have all follow-ups from
detailed breast MRI, to ultrasound or MRI guided biopsies, to PET/CT
done at a single facility by the doctors who are most familiar with
their complete history. Pueblo Radiology also offers a full range of
woman’s diagnostic imaging to service all women’s health needs including
ultrasounds, bone density screening, calcium scoring, laser vein
treatment, hysterosalpingography, in addition to PET/CT.
The addition of PET/CT provides Pueblo Radiology’s patients with
complete state-of-the-art oncologic diagnostic imaging services and
serves an increasing need in the community. According to the American
Cancer Society 93% of cancer cases occur between the ages of 40 and 80 –
approximately 48% of Ventura’s 795,000 residents. With the population
of “baby boomers” steadily making the transition into senior-status, the
necessity for the quality, accuracy, and convenience of a full-service
imaging facility in the area is increasing.
The American Cancer Society attributes a 17% decrease in cancer
mortality rates from 1988-2005 to an increase in early detection; a
number that Pueblo Radiology hopes to help boost in Ventura with the
addition of PET/CT. For more information regarding this story or other
services offered by Pueblo Radiology, please contact Samantha Havard at
