Dr. Judy Dean delivers presentation at Cottage Hospital
March 6, 2013, Dr Judy Dean delivers presentation about Breast Density Notification and Individualized Screening for Breast Cancer.
Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound Screening Research Study
February 1, 2013, Dr's Judy Dean and Winifred Leung will be part of an evaluation team to assist in the development of a new device for automated whole breast screening ultrasound. (ABUS) These FDA trails are expected to begin in mid to late march 2013. Currently ABUS is available at the Santa Barbara Imaging Center located at 1525 State Street.
Hand-held ultrasound has been used for over twenty years to investigate the cause of breast lumps or to evaluate findings first discovered by mammography. Since many cancers are not apparent on mammograms but can be seen with ultrasound. This has been an important tool for radiologists in evaluating the breast for disease. Currently several imaging companies are designing systems to perform ultrasound screening of the entire breast. Since February, 2005, we have used ABUS technology, which collects thousands of ultrasound images of the breast and formats them for radiologist review. The published multi-center trial in which Dr. Dean participated showed that cancer detections were doubled by adding ABUS ultrasound findings to mammography.
Dr. Judy Dean affiliates with Pueblo Radiology
On January 1, 2013 Dr. Judy Dean and Pueblo Radiology
affiliated and created the Santa Barbara Women’s Imaging Center, located at Dr.
Dean’s current office at 1525 State Street.
Our goal is to combine our efforts to further improve the women’s
imaging services on the central coast.
Our first project is bringing breast tomosynthesis to the
central coast. This cutting-edge
technology promises to improve mammographic accuracy in detecting breast
disease while reducing the number of callback examinations. From the woman’s perspective, the exam is
similar to a regular mammogram. However,
the resulting images are no longer in 2D, but instead a 3D volume of the breast
which aids the radiologist in evaluating the overlapping and complex structures
of the breast, especially in the presence of dense breast tissue.
Other services at the center include DEXA for bone density
assessment and breast ultrasound. Breast
ultrasound includes whole breast screening in addition to localized and focused
scanning for areas of concern. For
patients needing breast biopsy services, our office will continue to offer
stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies and aspirations.
Breast MRI imaging and biopsy and wire placement / localization
examinations will be handled at our main office at 2320 Bath Street. Additionally, our Bath Street location will
continue to provide screening and diagnostic breast imaging, breast ultrasound,
and breast biopsy / aspiration services.
We encourage you to call and schedule your next
appointment at one of our two offices. Our
goal is to exceed your expectations in a professional, pleasant, and discreet
office environment.

MEANINGFUL USE AND YOU...
April 15, 2012 - Santa Barbara, Calif. - Beginning in mid-April, we have modified our registration process which now involves more questions, several which may not directly seem relevant to your examination at our office.
Pueblo Radiology has chosen to participate in “Meaningful Use” (MU). This is a Federal program signed into law in 2009 that seeks to computerize and improve the effectiveness of healthcare in the United States.
This first MU stage involves moving healthcare providers onto computers in addition to the collection of additional patient data. You may notice this same data will be asked of you when you visit the hospital or other healthcare providers participating in the Meaningful Use mandate. If you have filled this information out and have a summary sheet from that provider, we can take a copy and save you from filling out this sheet. Otherwise, click here and print out a copy of the MU registration paperwork; complete this and bring it with you to your appointment.
Please contact us with any questions and thank you for helping us to comply with these new government reporting measures.
